Events of EFUCA
In a world devastated by pandemics, wars, explosions, a world of needs, in a world divided into different beliefs, peace seems to be an unrealizable dream. We are no closer to peace today in this tried world than we were in the last century. The generations that followed the great wars around the globe dared to hope, but reality asked them to build their hopes from what little was left after. Are we tempted to lose sight of peace and even become more discouraged in our quest? Is peace possible? Can we approach it so that we can caress and touch it? It took great world organizations, great personalities that came out of need to understand this vision worthy of the future of humanity and to remind us that, despite discouragement, fears, pain, we must never lose sight of this truth. Martin Luther King Jr. , with "I Have a Dream" looked famously at a unique future and dared to look beyond his present. He looked beyond the present to a future of peace, to a world without segregation and hatred, to a world in which all are treated with dignity and respect. He sits next to other wonderful beings who have supported the peace : Mandela, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, people accustomed to the vision of peace in the suitcase of life. Let us remember that the UNESCO Constitution states: "Since wars begin in the minds of men, the defense of peace must be built in the minds of men." We are convinced that the pursuit of peace is even more important. It can never be done by organizations or structures, but only by people who work hard for this purpose and we are now thinking especially of Clubs, Centers and Associations for UNESCO. UNESCO, which we celebrate this year on the 75th anniversary, European Federation for UNESCO Clubs and Associations for Europe and North America, which in less than 6 months celebrates 20 years of activity exists because we dare to dream, we dare to declare a unity of humanity despite our differences. We dare to dream of peace. We call on all our colleagues in UNESCO's clubs, centers and associations around the world to remain connected in a vision of the future, which does not overlook the suffering and the world torn by this relentless pandemic, but which seeks to make a difference and count the costs. And to think optimistically about what we are given to live. COVID-19 achieved in a few days what the reforms for years failed to achieve: promoting the use of digital tools at different levels of education. And for that and not only for that we must thank Guy Djoken for succeeding, as a month ago to gather us under the same roof of hope, education, science and culture in a virtual world in which we find ourselves and we all look today. A vision of present peace is a peace that sees the need of our world and is willing to work for its realization. On behalf of the NATCOM Romania, of the European Federation, Romanian Federation and the Alumnus Club for UNESCO, which celebrates 20 years of activity this year, I wish you to end a year of health and hope that the good future is our neighbor.
